Configuring PayPal
This article runs through the steps required to setup PayPal as your Payment Gateway. The frist step is to select PayPal as the gateway using the appropriate check button on the Account -> Payment Gateway page. If you are registering rather than editing your settings, this option will be shown on the previous screen. You'll need to enter your PayPal registered email address which we pre-populate with your Digital Delivery App email address, so you should check if these are the same. Although not required we recommend a Business or Premier account to reduce transactions costs. PayPal allows you to have one personal account and one business account so it makes sense to separate these.
Next login to PayPal and click the Profile link under the Account menu option. To the left of the screen you'll see a link called "My selling preferences" - click this and then find the "Website Payment Preferences" link. Click this as shown in this screenshot
On this page change the radio button "Auto-Return" to On and copy the Return URL from Digital Delivery App into the box labeled "Return URL". Should you want the buyer to return to your site rather than our download page you can enter a URL from your site here instead. If you do this, you must inform the buyer that they will be emailed their purchase download details. Further down the page turn the Payment Data Transfer setting to On and click Save.
On the resulting page a message will occur at the top of the page with your Identity Token and it will also be shown in the Payment Data Transfer section itself. Copy this:
Back on Digital Delivery App paste your identity token into the field labeled "PDT Token" and click Update.
This will give complete your PayPal setup. The Return URL/PDT section is optional but it improves the Buyers experience by allowing buyers to return straight to our site after buying a product. This is a more preferable flow than them having to wait for an email so it used by nearly all our customers.
Note for international customers If you are selling your goods in a different currency from that of your PayPal account then you'll need to either automatically accept payments in a different currency or add a second currency to your account. You can alter these settings under the Payment Receiving Preferences and Currency Balances links in the Profile section of PayPal. If you do not do this then files will not be released until you manually go in and accept the payments.
